UNIV 100: Sundial Transcription Project

Guide to assist University 100 students in transcribing and tagging the structure of the campus newspaper, The Daily Sundial, in order to make the content machine-readable, accessible, and more discoverable.

About the project

The University Library preserves CSUN’s student newspaper, The Daily Sundial in Special Collections & Archives. Issues published prior to the paper's shift to digital distribution in 2014 were digitized and made available on our Digital Collections site, but the automated transcription process resulted in some erroneous and unstructured transcriptions.

As part of this U100 Community-Based Learning (CBL) project, you will help make issues of The Daily Sundial accessible to those with visual impairment, as well as enhance discoverability for students, alumni, and researchers. This guide provides instructions and examples on how to do this through transcribing and encoding pages of our student newspaper.
