Cost-Saving Tips

  • Class Search: Choose Zero Cost Course Materials or Low Cost Course Materials as an Additional Category:

  • CSUN Oviatt Library: Watch these videos if you want to know how to look for the below resources.
    • Course Reserves: Search for your textbooks by instructor or book title in CSUN Library OneSearch. 
    • Online Textbooks: Find textbooks & ebooks in the library catalog using the search filter: Available Online at CSUN
    • CSU+: If CSUN doesn't have your textbook, you may be able to borrow it for 30-60 days from another CSU campus. Just make sure to set the drop down in OneSearch to All CSU Libraries.
  • Other Places:
    • Price Match at CSUN Campus Store: If you find a lower price on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or a local campus competitor, the Campus Store will match it within 7 days of your original purchase date. 
    • Resources for used and low-cost textbooks
  • Other tips:
    • Get the syllabi of your selected courses to plan ahead of time affordable ways to get your textbooks
    • Let your professors know if you have trouble accessing course materials
      • Your professor may be able to ask a librarian to digitize portions of multiple books, to purchase an alternative title “unlimited use” license ebooks using existing library funds for reserve materials, and to provide links to existing library digital resources
      • You can always ask your professors to put a textbook on reserve!
