Thinking About Citations

Whether your course requires you to use MLA, APA, or Chicago Style...the following guides will help you learn how to properly cite your sources.

MLA or APA

Use the APA or the MLA Quick Guides to double check your citations. Make sure to pay attention to all the small details, every period and comma counts. Examples of a Reference or Works Cited list are included at the end of each guide.

Using Chicago or Turabian

At CSUN, your work in History courses will typically require citations and formatting according to The Chicago Manual of Style. Chicago has strict guidelines for margins, font, spacing, pagination, etc.

While it is always a good idea to follow these guidelines, your instructor may not require the fullstrict specifications of Chicago formatting. Check with your professor, and remember to consult the Library's copies of The Chicago Manual of Style and online guide versions.
