What is Community Engaged Learning and Research?

Community Engaged Learning and Research (CELR) refers to a set of practices that can include service learning, community-based initiatives, or participatory research. CELR practices are interdisciplinary and can be applied across areas of study and scholarship. This work can include instructional design, student collaborations, community and cross-campus partnerships, publication of academic or creative works, and the production of educational and community resources. CELR is a broad area of scholarship and pedagogy that focuses on learning-through-application, building dynamic and collaborative relationships, and creating positive impact and justice-oriented social change.
