Accessibility: Tips and Bad Examples

(a work in progress)

Tables

Tables should be used for tabular information only, with a header row or column (or both) to label the data. The example below uses both header rows and columns to indicate which type of author name format matches each citation style.

Author Name Format
Style Format Example
MLA Lastname, Firstname [middle name or initial]

Burke, Kenneth

Levy, David M.

Wallace, David Foster

APA Lastname, author initials Wegener, D. T.
Chicago Firstname [middle name or initial] Lastname Gabriel García Márquez

Temptingly easy though it may seem, do not use table to lay out content.  Use a <div> with a float style applied instead (see Floatutorial)
