Dissertations and Theses
The Library does not own most of the actual dissertations, but can help you acquire them through Interlibrary loan as the dissertations themselves usually reside only at the University where the dissertation was done. Also available on the web at URL (http://library.calstate.edu/northridge/databases/alphabetical?alpha=D). Then select the Dissertation and Theses database.
Here's a brief list of basic reference sources divided by subject area. For a complete list of available books consult the Library's subject catalogs. Remember to use the Library of Congress Subject Headings (red books behind the reference desk) to obtain a list of all pertinent subject headings for your search. Examples are "Fashion--Dictionaries"; (the subheading "Dictionaries" includes encyclopedias), "Nutrition--Handbooks, Manuals, etc."
