JOUR 480: History of American News Media

Primary Sources

Definition

In addition to News sources, which may be considered the first account of a newsworthy event, primary sources, which are unpublished documents and other artifacts written or created under the time of study, are a rich resource. Examples of primary sources include diaries, photographs, reporters notebooks, newspaper articles (from the time period), correspondence, manuscripts, original research, event posters, illustrations, oral histories, pamphlets, and other archival materials.
